Details ahead of 2011 Local Government Elections

Coming out of yesterday eThekwini region IEC Liason meeting are details of the coming Local Government Elections:
- Election within 1 year, sometime between 2 March and 1 June 2011
- No new voting districts
- Voter registration weekends – 5/6 Feb and 5/6 Mar 2011
- End of this 5 year term is 1 Mar 2011
- No ward by-elections after 30 Nov 2010
- PR appointments can be made up until day before election day.

    It willbe more appropriate if there could be a closing date for the PR appointment to avoid a caotic situation

    I also think that these PRs should be choose much earlier to avoid the confusion and fights. This could also enable us to be able to go to these election with a clear set of mind.

    South Africans generally observe with much vigour national elections as opposed to local elections. How I wished we could be so firmly magnatised to the latter in quest for service delivery, as we renounce our sense of this senseless party loyalism which has seen us nowher than to flaunt us with mediocre service delivery
