(Updated) Durban International to King Shaka Changeover April 30/May 1 2010

Note: ACSA have made a PDF available providing details of the new

Please find below a communique from ACSA regarding the pending switchover of operations from Durban International Airport in the South of Durban to the new King Shaka International Airport in the North.

Please advise travellers that on 01 May 2010 the new King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) becomes operational for all Durban-bound air travel. The existing Durban International Airport will be decommissioned; although it may be used for a temporary period during the Soccer World Cup event if required.

All flights into Durban up to and including Friday 30 April 2010 will operate from the current airport. From 01 May 2010, all flights will officially operate out of the new airport which is located approximately 35 kilometers north of the city centre.
Please factor in extra time to get to and from KSIA and bear in mind that if you are travelling in one direction before 30 April and back after 01 May, that you may need a shuttle between the two airports.

SHUTTLE SERVICE

ACSA will provide a shuttle transfer between King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) and Durban International Airport (DIA) which will cover the cost for passengers that leave cars at DIA from 01 May for one week only.
Thereafter transportation between both airports will be for the passenger’s account and they will have to arrange transfers themselves.

it looks terrible…. how are we suppose to welcome foreigners when they walk out of the plane and into that. the exterior is extremely untidy with the opening a week away….

    God day,
I have worked at the KSIA for two weeks working for katanga group at the shaded parking,I wwas posted for the gates where I was helping the motorists. There are few things that I saw in which I think it will be of great use to you. People who travel from the shaded parking to the terminal find it inconvieient to travel the long distance ot the terminal, one day there was a lady who was from the theater in the past four weeks and she was on her was to Jhb the firts thing she complaint about was the distance and she cuoldnt walk all the way to the treminal her haed was painfull let alone to look foir her car in which she doesnt now where she parked it , she was crying tears, how ever I helped her with the lagage and organised for the shuttle to take her from the parking A and help her to look for the car. The second complaint that I recieved was from other uses who complained that when its raining they get wet from the distnce to the terminal and they hane to take the plane as wet as they are of which it is not comftable to do so.

    POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

I came with one posible solution that ACSA MAY FIND IT TO BE USEFUL Acsa can provide golf carts that will take them from the shaded parking to the terminal using the undergroung route to and from the terminal. this is the possible solution that I came up with its up to you what you think.Unfortanaly I no longer work at the KSIA at some of our the katanga staffwas removed from the airport to the other areas even though I am still interested in working at the KSIA.

Hope to hear rom you soon.
